Artist Spotlight — Meet Brandi Paine and Annie Lester

Artist Spotlight — Meet Brandi Paine and Annie Lester

My name is Brandi.

I am a freelance artist and concert photographer. I specialise in mixed media art using elements of watercolour, lino print, collage and alcohol markers to create captivating and bold portraiture and zines. My style consists of vibrant colours that contrast against dark rough outlines which is drawn from my inspiration of the heavy metal music genre, horror movies, and the 70s punk movement.

Themes I discuss in my practice evolve around the impact of relationships, romantic and non-romantic. I am intrigued by how social relationships can impact us deeply and influence our personalities, both negatively and positively. Therefore, I aim for my art to allow people to reflect on their relationships and their experiences and how they can influence society and future relationships.

My next journey, after my first successful zine fair, will be trading at craft fairs across Buckinghamshire and East Sussex.

I’m Annie, a self-taught artist based in South East England.

I create work that is deeply inspired by nature, memory, and lived experience. Having spent my early years in Trinidad, the vibrancy and rhythm of the Caribbean continue to influence my use of colour and atmosphere. Alongside painting, I balance my practice with home-educating my children, which has shaped a slower, more observant way of seeing the world.

Working mainly in acrylics, I use expressive, vibrant colours to bring my subjects to life. My recent floral portrait collection reflects on femininity through the symbolism of flowers—exploring themes of resilience, beauty, and presence. Through my work, I aim to celebrate quiet strength and invite moments of stillness and connection. Flowers become extensions of identity rather than decoration, representing growth, transformation, and individuality. Through this collection, I aim to celebrate feminine beauty as powerful, unapologetic, and deeply rooted in both nature and personal expression.
